Buying a horse is a truly exciting time.

But please do not get carried away in the moment.  Do make sure to protect yourself with a deposit agreement and a purchase agreement.  I cannot over emphasise how important it is to have a deposit agreement before the deposit is paid and then a purchase agreement if the sale is to proceed to completion.

The sale agreement must be finalised and signed before the balance of the purchase price is paid (where a deposit has been paid) and before collection of the horse.  The cost of both a deposit agreement and a sale agreement are invaluable as the agreements prompt you to set out and agree the very items which so often later result in litigation if things go wrong.  And things usually go wrong when a sale agreement is not in place, hence why a sale agreement is invaluable.
